The ERBESSD INSTRUMENTS integration is set up and managed by MaintainX®. For more information, contact your MaintainX representative.

The ERBESSD INSTRUMENTS integration is a fully managed integration between MaintainX and ERBESSD INSTRUMENTS. It's one of MaintainX's Connected Data sources, streaming sensor data into the platform automatically. It gives your team a complete package for condition monitoring, with MaintainX and ERBESSD INSTRUMENTS providing and supporting both the hardware and the software. Your team doesn't need to source sensors, configure data pipelines, or maintain the integration yourselves. Instead, you get vibration data flowing into MaintainX as ready-to-act-on alerts.

The integration is built on the ERBESSD INSTRUMENTS PHANTOM® Vibration System, which includes the PHANTOM wireless sensors and PHANTOM Gateway described below.

If you already have your own sensors and operational technology (OT) data configured, MaintainX also offers self-managed connectors for Ignition®, Kepware®, and MQTT. For more information, see About OT Data Connectors.

Integration Overview

The integration provides full coverage of the end-to-end data pipeline. MaintainX and ERBESSD INSTRUMENTS handle every stage, from collecting vibration data from the sensors to streaming it into MaintainX. Once the data arrives, MaintainX meters and AI models turn it into condition-based alerts that vibration analysts review and act on.

Diagram of the six stages in the ERBESSD INSTRUMENTS data flow: PHANTOM Sensor, PHANTOM Gateway, Integration Service, Meters, Analysis, and Alerts.
Data flow for the ERBESSD INSTRUMENTS integration
  • PHANTOM sensor: ERBESSD INSTRUMENTS PHANTOM wireless sensors measure vibration and temperature on your assets and report over Bluetooth.
  • PHANTOM gateway: The PHANTOM Gateway collects sensor readings and pushes them to the MaintainX integration service over HTTPS.
  • Integration service: The integration service receives readings from the gateway over an authenticated endpoint.
  • Meters: MaintainX meters are the registration point for sensor data: each reading is mapped to the correct asset and meter, then stored as a meter reading, based on the type of data reported (vibration or temperature). Readings from the same sensor are grouped into a monitoring point, so related signals stay together on the asset.
  • Analysis: MaintainX AI models analyze the meter data to detect and classify faults, and your organization's configured alert automations determine whether an alert should be raised.
  • Alerts: When MaintainX registers an alert, a vibration analyst performs a review to ensure it's valid before creating a work order for your team to take action.
  • Work orders: A work order is created and shared with your team so you can take action before your equipment fails.

Before any data flows, MaintainX registers each PHANTOM sensor to its asset onsite using a mobile device. Registration is what links a sensor to its asset, so once it's complete, the sensor's readings arrive in MaintainX already linked to the correct asset and no additional mapping step is needed. Registration also sets which axis each of the sensor's velocity meters represents. To register a new sensor, or to re-register a sensor to a different asset, contact your MaintainX representative.

When a MaintainX vibration analyst reviews an alert and determines that your team should take action, they create a work order, turning the alert into work your team can act on. Each work order includes a procedure that asks for specific feedback, such as whether the initial inspection found the issue and what steps resolved it.

Completing that procedure feeds back into the integration. It gives MaintainX real-world confirmation of what the alert predicted and helps refine the underlying models against your organization's own equipment and vibration patterns over time. The more your team completes these procedures, the stronger that feedback loop becomes and the better the system gets at catching real issues.

Requirements

PHANTOM Gateway

  • ERBESSD INSTRUMENTS hardware: One or more ERBESSD INSTRUMENTS PHANTOM wireless vibration sensors and a PHANTOM Gateway.
  • Gateway firmware: Firmware version 56 or later on the PHANTOM Gateway.
  • Network: Outbound HTTPS access from the gateway to https://agent.maintainx.com/ on port 443.

MaintainX Account

  • Integration permissions: Administrator access in your organization to view and configure the ERBESSD INSTRUMENTS integration.

Key Concepts

Connector Instance

A connection between one or more PHANTOM Gateways and a single MaintainX organization is called a connector instance. You can create more than one connector instance and give each a descriptive name.

Every connector instance has its own authentication token, which the PHANTOM Gateway uses to authenticate with MaintainX and identify which connector instance its data belongs to. To learn how to create a connector instance and its token, see Set Up the ERBESSD INSTRUMENTS Integration.

Gateway

A PHANTOM Gateway is the device that collects readings from nearby PHANTOM sensors and forwards them to MaintainX over HTTPS. Each sensor pairs with a nearby gateway over Bluetooth. A single gateway can receive data from multiple paired sensors, and a site might deploy multiple gateways depending on coverage, asset layout, and signal strength.

Meter

Each PHANTOM sensor takes a series of health readings for its asset and reports them to MaintainX, where each reading type is recorded in its own meter on the asset. MaintainX prefixes each meter name with the sensor's serial number, such as <SENSOR-SERIAL-NUMBER>-Signal, so every meter is tied directly to the sensor that reports it.

Each sensor has the following meters:

MeterUnit
SignaldBm
BatteryVolts
Horizontal Velocity RMSMillimeters per second
Vertical Velocity RMSMillimeters per second
Axial Velocity RMSMillimeters per second
TemperatureCelsius

The three velocity RMS meters correspond to the sensor's axes, set during registration. Together, these meters let your team track an asset's condition over time and catch developing problems early. To confirm readings are arriving, see Configure the PHANTOM Gateway.

Sensor

A PHANTOM sensor is a wireless device that you attach to an asset to measure its vibration and temperature. Each sensor pairs with a nearby gateway over Bluetooth and reports its readings to it. A sensor and its gateway are separate devices that you deploy together as a system.
