Create a Location

This article explains how to create a location and describes location form fields.
Create a Location​
- Web
- Mobile
- From the sidebar, select Locations.
- In the Locations module, select + New Location.
- Enter a name and any other properties for the location (see Location Form Fields).
- Select Create.
The new location appears in the organization's locations list.
- From the bottom navigation bar, select Assets.
- On the Assets screen, select the Locations tab.
- Select + New Location.
- Enter a name and any other properties for the location (see Location Form Fields).
- Select Create.
The new location appears in the organization's locations list.
After you create a new location, its Details page appears. You can:
- Add the location to a work order: select Use in New Work Order.
- Go back to your locations list: select Locations.
- Create a sub-location for this location: select Create Sub-Location. For more information about sub-locations, see Location Hierarchies.
Location Form Fields​
Location form fields define a location's properties. The following table describes each of the fields in the Location form.
Field | Description |
---|---|
Name | The name of the location. It can be up to 255 characters long. You cannot create a location without a name. |
Add or drag pictures | Attach or drag pictures of the location. These can be photos or other pictures such as maps, blueprints, etc. In the mobile app, you can take photos with your device’s camera, or choose existing photos or pictures on the device. In the web app, you can choose any photo or picture on your computer. |
Address | The physical address associated with the location in MaintainX. When filled, this field becomes a hyperlink to Google Maps. |
Description | A short description of the location. It can be up to 4096 characters long (roughly 500-700 words). Make sure to include all relevant details about the location. |
Teams in charge | Assign teams to the location. Typically, these are the teams responsible for the location's maintenance. |
QR Code/Barcode | QR Code used to identify the location. You can enter the alphanumeric data manually or generate the code. For more information, see About QR codes and Barcodes. |
Files | Attach files to the location. In the mobile app, you can choose existing files or photos on your device. In the web app, you can choose any files or photos on your computer. |
Vendors | The vendors associated with the location. You can choose any vendors you created in your organization through the Vendors module. |
Parent Location | Choose a parent location. The location you're creating or editing becomes a sub-location of the parent location you choose. For more information about locations and sub-locations, see Location Hierarchies. |
