Root Cause Analyst generates an analysis for a specific asset to help you investigate it and creates a root cause analysis (RCA) report that you can review and refine.
When to Use Root Cause Analyst
You can use Root Cause Analyst when an asset has had unplanned downtime and you need to investigate what happened. The skill prepares the investigation, but you inspect the asset, test, and decide on the root cause.
Before You Start
To use the Root Cause Analyst skill, you need the Root Cause Analysis feature enabled in your organization.
For more information, see User Roles and Permissions.
Data the Skill Reviews
Root Cause Analyst uses the following information to generate an analysis:
| Data | Information Reviewed |
|---|---|
| Asset downtime | The asset's status history. |
| RCA configurations | Your organization's RCA configuration data, such as categories and problems, used to create the draft report and the proposed RCA work order structure. |
| Work orders | Completed and active work orders, including titles, due dates, descriptions, filled procedure values, parts used, comments, work order summaries, and assigned users. |
| Work order statistics | The total number of repeating, overdue, and open work orders for the asset. Repeating work orders show whether the asset follows scheduled maintenance, overdue work orders show how well it's maintained, and open work orders show its overall load and how well the queue is managed. |
Limitations
Root Cause Analyst has the following limitations:
| Limitation | Details |
|---|---|
| Manual runs only | The skill only supports manual runs. You can't schedule it. |
| Single asset | The skill is scoped to the asset you select. It doesn't scan your whole organization. |
| Investigation support | The skill doesn't diagnose the root cause. You determine the root cause, edit the report, and submit it. |
| Draft report | A run doesn't always create a draft report. The skill doesn't create one when there's no unplanned downtime or not enough documented evidence to analyze. |
