This article explains how to create or duplicate an asset in the MaintainX web and mobile applications, and describes asset form fields.

tip

You can also import asset data into MaintainX to create assets in bulk. This is useful when you need to create many assets quickly, or you have existing asset data exported from another system. For example, an enterprise resource planning (ERP) or enterprise asset management (EAM) system. For details, see Asset Imports.

Create an Asset

  1. From the sidebar, select Assets.
  2. Select + New Asset.
  3. Enter a name and any additional properties for the asset. See Asset Form Fields for details.
  4. Select Create.

The new asset appears in the Assets list of your organization.

If your plan includes the asset status feature, by default, the status for a new asset is Online. You can edit the asset to change its status. For more information, see Edit an Asset.

Naming Conventions

We recommend implementing a consistent naming convention for your assets. It should be concise and simple to organize. Using consistent naming conventions across your entire organization establishes an efficient way to find assets.

Duplicate an Asset

Another way to create an asset is to duplicate one that already exists.

  1. From the sidebar, select Assets.
  2. In the Assets list, select the asset you want to duplicate.
  3. On the Asset details page, select (more options).
  4. Select Copy to New Asset.
  5. When prompted, select Confirm to create a copy of the asset.
  6. The duplicated asset opens on the Edit page, allowing you to edit the asset. You can verify the information or edit the information.
  7. To save the asset, select Update.

After you create the asset, it appears in the Assets list with the name Copy - <ASSET NAME>. You can edit its name. For more information, see Edit an Asset.

note

You cannot duplicate deleted assets, but you can restore them and then duplicate them. For more information, see Restore a Deleted Asset.
