MaintainX Assist
MaintainX Assist, sometimes abbreviated as MX Assist, is an AI-powered maintenance assistant that helps you search your asset manuals, create work tasks, troubleshoot issues, and share insights directly in MaintainX. MaintainX Assist provides support for all users, from technicians to Administrators, whether they’re on the shop floor or at their desks.

Overview
MaintainX Assist facilitates your maintenance process by extracting and consolidating information from your manuals, work orders, procedures, and notes. As your team interacts with MaintainX Assist, you build an internal knowledge base that improves and gets more accurate over time.

MaintainX Assist Capabilities
MaintainX Assist brings together several AI capabilities to support you daily. It can answer complex maintenance questions by looking through your organization's data, combining information from multiple sources, including your work order histories, and considering the context of your current task.
The capabilities available to you depend on where you access MaintainX Assist (for example, on desktop or mobile) and the information available in your organization. For more information, see Ways to Use MaintainX Assist.
Get Complete Answers
MaintainX Assist can help you:
- Answer complex questions: Ask multi-part, open-ended, or diagnostic questions. MaintainX Assist gathers additional information as it works, combining the findings into a complete answer.
- Troubleshoot without an asset manual: When an asset doesn't have an attached manual, MaintainX Assist uses its maintenance history, including previous work orders, technician comments, and work order summaries. MaintainX Assist can also retrieve information for any similar asset in your organization. If a manual is available, it uses both the manual and the asset's maintenance history.
- Count and prioritize work: Ask MaintainX Assist for counts, breakdowns, and suggested priorities. For example, you can ask how many work orders are overdue and which ones your team should address first.
- Check your asset statuses: Ask about an asset's current status or when it previously went offline.
- Learn how to complete a task in MaintainX: Ask for step-by-step instructions for completing a task in MaintainX.
The quality of an answer depends on the information available in your MaintainX organization. Detailed work orders, comments, and work order summaries help MaintainX Assist provide relevant answers. For more information, see How to Interact with AI.
Search Your Organization's Data
MaintainX Assist can search information from your organization's data, including:
- Assets and their maintenance history
- Work orders descriptions
- Technician comments
- Work order summaries
Retrieve Comments and Notes Across Different Languages
You can ask MaintainX Assist to show you work order comments and summaries in your organization's default language, even when the original content was added or recorded in a different language.
MaintainX Assist can only translate information returned in your exchange with the AI chat. MaintainX Assist can't translate the content displayed on the work order itself.
Before asking MaintainX Assist to translate content, keep the following limitations in mind:
- You must ask MaintainX Assist to retrieve and translate each item.
- Automatically generated system messages might not be included.
- Translations can differ from the original content, particularly when the content was translated more than once.
- When the MaintainX Assist chat panel is open, you might not be able to view the corresponding work order details simultaneously.
Get Contextual and Traceable Answers
MaintainX Assist uses information about the entity you're currently viewing, such as an asset or a work order. When interacting with MaintainX Assist, you don't need to repeat that context in every prompt.
MaintainX Assist also include source references in its responses. These inline references allow you to easily identify the manuals, work orders, comments, or other data used to generate the answer.

MaintainX Assist can suggest new procedures or ways to improve your existing procedures using your MaintainX Assist knowledge base.

MaintainX Assist Limitations
MaintainX Assist enhances your maintenance workflows, but some limitations can affect its performance.
