Bulk Edit Meters

availability

You can only bulk edit meters in the MaintainX® web application.

You can bulk edit meters to update specific fields for several assets at once. For example, to add a prefix to the meter names, or change the units the meters use.

To bulk edit meters:

  1. From the sidebar, select Assets.

  2. Select (Panel View) or (Table View).

  3. To select the meters you want to bulk edit:

    1. Hover over the icon of each meter you want to edit until a checkbox appears.
    2. Select the checkbox.
  4. Choose a bulk edit action.

Bulk Meter Edit Actions

This section lists the fields you can bulk edit and explains how to bulk edit them. For more information about the fields themselves, see Meter Fields.

ActionDescription
RenameAdd a prefix or a suffix to the name of every selected meter.

Selecting this option opens the Rename Meter dialog.

  1. Choose Add Prefix or Add Suffix.
  2. Type the prefix or suffix text.
  3. Select Apply Changes.
You can't add a prefix and a suffix in the same bulk-edit operation.
Edit Meter UnitsChange the Unit of Measurement for each selected meter.

To change the unit of measurement in bulk, all the selected meters must use compatible units of measurement.

Let's say you select 10 meters:

  • If they all use number value like a distance or volume, you can bulk change their unit of measurement.
  • If half of them use number values, and the other half use boolean (on/off) values, you can't bulk change their unit of measurement because their units of measurement are not compatible.
Edit AssetChange the assigned asset for every selected meter.
Edit ThresholdsChange the Warning and/or Alarm threshold values for every selected meter.

To bulk edit thresholds, the selected meters must have the same unit of measurement. For example, you can't bulk edit thresholds for two meters if one uses kilometers and the other uses miles.

You can only set thresholds for meters with numerical data types.
DeleteDelete all the selected meters.

For more information about deleting meters and restoring deleted meters, see Delete Meters.

Meter Fields

FieldDescription
NameThe name of the meter. It can be up to 255 characters long.

You cannot create a meter without a name.
Meter TypeSelect the type of meter:

  • Manual: This is a meter that's manually checked by a technician who records the reading in MaintainX®.
  • Automated (web application only): This is a meter whose readings are automatically transferred to MaintainX via the REST API, or from an integrated data source, such as a sensor. For example, sensors connected to MaintainX via an OT Data Connector (see OT Data Connectors).
  • IoT Device: For automatic transfer of meter data from IoT sources. This feature is no longer offered and has been replaced by automated meters. Organizations with existing IoT meters can continue to use them.
DescriptionA short description of the meter. It can be up to 4096 characters long (roughly 500 to 700 words).

Make sure to include all the relevant details for the meter.
Source (automated meters only)Integrated data source that the meter data comes from. For example, a sensor. You can choose from any source in your organization.
Measurement UnitChoose from one of the following measurement units:

  • Distance
  • Volume
  • Temperature
  • Velocity
  • Acceleration
  • Electrical
  • Other
You can also type the measurement unit directly in the text box and select Use.
AssetAssign the meter to an Asset.

If the asset has an assigned location, MaintainX adds it to the meter's Location field automatically.
LocationAssign the meter to Location.

If you assign an asset to the meter, and the asset has an assigned location, the meter uses the asset's location automatically.
Reading FrequencyChoose from one of the following reading frequencies:
  • None
  • Hour
  • Day
  • Week
  • Month
  • Year
Threshold Settings (automated meters only)Set thresholds according to desired values for meters with numerical data types. An automation can reference the thresholds to trigger notifications or work orders.

You can set the following threshold values:

  • Warning: A warning is a signal of potential danger that allows for preparation and prevention.
  • Alarm: An Alarm alerts people to take immediate action. It is an escalation of the Warning threshold.

Note: The Alarm threshold value should be higher than the Warning threshold value.
Add Pictures/FilesAttach or drag photos or files.

In the mobile application, you can take photos with your device's camera or choose existing files and photos on the device.

In the web application, you can choose any files or photos on your computer.
